About the role:

As an experienced Financial Controller & Business Partner for the R&D and Systems Departments you will be responsible for designing, driving, and executing the financial controlling and reporting for the entire R&D organization of Cobham SATCOM located in Poland, Denmark, and the US. Reporting to the Head of Finance in Denmark directly under the Global CFO, your will work closely with the Senior Management Team, as well as relevant stakeholders in R&D and the local site manager in Krakow. You play an important role in ensuring proper and timely cost controlling, end-to-end project controlling, risk assessments, while developing business case and investment proposals and continued optimization for all pivotal R&D projects, both for internal and external customers.


You will:

  • Develop, implement and maintain prudent financial controlling processes across the international R&D and Systems organization (300+ FTE’s)
  • Review & lead month-end closing and provide insights and instructions to the R&D Senior Management team to effectively achieve the set objectives, stay within project budget and timelines.
  • Lead and coordinate recurring forecast updates, annual budgets and long-term project and product plans
  • Develop cost controlling models for internal and customer specific projects and programs, considering internal labor, contractor and 3rd party material spend. Review R&D spend and validity of business cases for programs on monthly basis and advise on variances.
  • Develop cost and profitability models for products across their whole lifecycle from R&D idea, through market launch until retirement, including financial impact and valuation.
  • Organize business discussions and reviews, understand business needs, and effectively challenge spend and timelines, using clear and concise communication
  • Act as a reliable and trusted Finance Business Partner, building and presenting meaningful data, support and drive decision-making based on financial and controlling data together with Functional Senior Management and relevant Project Managers
  • Support organization by implementing and sharing Controlling best practices
  • Lead and participate in identification areas for improvements, simplification, and standardization, being able to drive change, implement and influence new ways of working.

Job requirements

  • Academic/Masters degree (Finance Accounting or Economics related field)
  • Min. 8-10 years of professional experience, min 3 years of experience within project controlling and reporting from relevant business sectors (e.g. technology consultants) 
  • Proven experience of working as Business Partner in close collaboration with the organization
  • Knowledge of IFRS is a must. US GAAP will be an additional asset
  • Strong with numbers, analytical and conceptual mindset
  • Critical thinker and strong problem solver with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Experience in IT/System Integration programs or in High-Tech Product Development (hardware and software) is desirable
  • Self-driven, motivated and pro-active with change experience
  • Fluency in English
